Library Records
South Carolina Law Protects The Confidentiality of Library Users’ Records*
- Persons acting within the scope of their duties in the administration of the library or library system;
- Persons authorized, in writing, by the library patron to inspect their personal records;
- In accordance with proper judicial order; or
- In compliance with the USA PATRIOT (Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism) Act of 2001 (PL 107-56) regarding terrorist activities.
The records of library materials you borrow or use cannot be disclosed to anyone except:
* Title 60, Chapter 4, of the 1976 Code of Laws applies to any library supported in whole or in part by public funds.
CSU Student Library Records
Charleston Southern University student library records are also protected by the federal Family Educational rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended (FERPA). As such, information related to a student’s library records of fines and account holds cannot be discussed by phone or email without confirming authorized consent of release.
Library Web Privacy
The CSU Library uses Google Analytics to capture and analyze web statistics. The information gathered is used to improve web services for site users. Google Analytics uses a browser cookie to gather and process data related to your browsing behavior on library websites. Data typically collected include Network Location; Hostname; web pages requested; referring web page; browser used; screen resolution; date and time.
No personal information is stored within cookies. If you choose, you may opt out by turning off cookies in your browser preferences, but know that this may affect how some webpages function.
